Ivy Blue's Greatest Pumpkin Playhouse

Ivy Blue dreams of having her very own playhouse, but her parents think a pumpkin patch is a better idea. When Ivy Blue discovers a lonely pumpkin in the patch, she decides to treat it with special care. With the extra love and attention, her pumpkin grows and grows. Ivy Blue even gives her pumpkin a name: Autumn.

As Halloween nears, Autumn grows too large to become a jack-o’-lantern, leaving Ivy Blue with a dilemma—what do you do with a giant pumpkin?

This heartwarming tale of friendship, giving back to the environment, and realizing one's dreams in unexpected ways will delight readers in every season.

A splash of blue

Ivy Blue has a unique name and nickname (Blue Girl). While her favorite colors are pink and purple, she makes sure to wear a “splash of blue” to match the color of her sparkling blue eyes. The “splash of blue” may be small, such as a hair bow or trim on her clothing, or more prominent like a hat or backpack.

Do you spy the butterfly?

The second artistic element is the addition of a butterfly on each page or spread. Often the butterfly is obvious, making it easy for younger children to spot, but sometimes the butterfly is shy and requires a bit more searching to find.

About Wendy

Wendy Schicktanz is a fresh face in the world of children’s literature. After a twenty-year career as an award-winning Master Photographer, Wendy decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of writing a children’s book. As a devoted mother to two grown sons, and a proud grandma to two “little pumpkins,” Wendy draws inspiration for her work from her family.

When she’s not crafting stories, you’ll find her hiking, skiing, reading, traveling or adventuring with her loved ones in the great outdoors. She and her husband enjoy splitting their time between Arizona and Colorado. Ivy Blue’s Greatest Pumpkin Playhouse is her debut children’s book.

What's Happening

I'm excited to announce that Ivy Blue's Greatest Pumpkin Playhouse will be available for purchase on Amazon October 30th!

In the meantime, I'm collecting pumpkin seed packets to use during my spring classroom presentations. I plan to give each student some pumpkin seeds, along with instructions for planting. My goal is 260 packets and I currently have 185. If you know of any stores or suppliers that would be willing to donate to my cause, please let me know.
